Deadly Swine Flu

Mexico city, with a population of 20 million people, is in danger on becoming the center of a pandemic of swine flu. Already 20 people have died, other 48 people who died previously are presumed to have had the same disease. There are probably thousands incubating the virus for which the human vaccine is inefective.
Two football stadiums, tickets already sold, will play on sunday with a very poor attendance, because people are taking precautions, covering their mouths with surgical masks and staying away from the metro and buses. The government is discouraging public gatherings and asking people to stay home and to avoid kissing cheeks when meeting friends.
There are already some swine flu cases in California and Texas and it is only a matter of days before it spreads to Central America, due to the constant traffic of illegal inmigrants.
The initial symptoms are the usual for flu: runny nose, watery eyes, sore throat, fever, body aches. Two drugs Relenza and Tamiflu are effective if taken in the first two days of illness.

Earth Day

EARTH DAY
April 22 has been declared Earth Day. Millions of people will participate in activities like planting seeds or planting trees. Others will clean up parks and collect plastic and paper to be recycled.

President Obama was in Iowa addressing the issue of air pollution by the use of alternative energy sources, particularly wind power to generate electricity.

In Tropical Countries the main problem is the burning of thousands of square miles of forests in these warm and dry months. Tons of Carbon Dioxide are dumpted into the atmosphere. Countless thousands suffer from asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

Let us put our grain of support toward this grand effort to save our planet earth!!

Danger of a Flu Epidemic

FLU EPIDEMIC
The flu epidemic is decreasing but it is still dangerous. The month of april registered more that 10,000 cases of Influenza A and more than 8,000 of influenza B. In Mexico there were three times as many cases as last year, and at least two reported deaths.
The symptoms of flu are fever, runny nose, coughing, sore throat, body aches. Symptoms usually disappear within four days. Children, older people, and those with chronic diseases are at risk of a more serious illness with a fatal outcome. Poople is these groups should be vaccinated.
There is a possibility that avian flu will recombine with the human strains to produce a deadly disease of pandemic proportions. Countries like Costa Rica are training health works to cope with a situation like that.

Are You Having Sexual Woes?

It looks so easy and exiting in the movies. Just two people attracted to each other having sex. In practice there are thousands of couples that don’t achieve mutual satisfaction. Poor erections, premature ejacutlations, lack of desire, frigidity, are among many sexual woes.

Sexual problems could be an indication of an underlying illness, such as diabetes or heart disease. Dr. Michael Krychman, medical director of sexual medicine at Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif. points out that “sexual health problems could be the first sign of underlying serious medical issues.”

Some of these problems could be resolved by just talking to a doctor or psicologist. But it so happens that people, men and women, tend to hide these problems.

“ Everyone has a right to a satisfying sex life” , says a noted Psychiatrist. Sex has a beneficial effect even in the elderly not only on life's outlook, but on the inmune system and on the heart function. So if you are having sexual woes look for help, don’t hesitate.

Obama turns the Green Light on Stem Cell Research

Stem cell research (see micrograph of a cultured cell above) has raised objections from the conservative Roman Catholic and the Evangelicals mainly because “ they say “ it’s like playing God in creating or destroying a potential human life.

Stem cells are obtained mainly from discarded embryos that otherwise would have to be destroyed. They have the capacity to become any type of cell, for instance liver, heart or brain cells. Potentially they could be used to treat Parkinson, Alzheimer, hepatic cirrosis, and other incurable diseases. Those that favor this type of research point to the fact that alleviating human suffering is more important than preserving a cell that “potentially” could become an embryo.

Fortunately, scientists at the University of California SF are finding ways to revert skin or other types of cells to their pluripotential state, and in that case it won’t be necessary to use human embryos.

How To Interpret Your Dreams

I have a recurring dream with slight variations. I find myself in a strange city and have to go the airport and catch a plane. But I can’t find my way to the Hotel to grab my baggage. When I finally get there the suitcases are not packed, and the hour of departure is very close. In some variations I get to the airport, but when I get there the plane is leaving.

Now, according to Freud dreams are a reflection of suppressed desires, usually of a sexual nature. It could be true, but the Zurich school, with Maeder and Jung, say that dreams are an illustration of the state of the dreamer, not only of his sexual instincts but of his aspirations toward a goal.

This takes us to the question, does my dream means that I am not getting the sexual satisfaction I desire or does it mean that I can not achieve a perfection for which I strive or a goal I cannot arrive at, for instance having financial or professional success.

Perhaps other readers have a similar dream and a better interpretation. Leave your comments in my blog.
